INDIE vs Podia

Introduction

This page is a detailed comparison between INDIE and Podia, taking into consideration the features, functionality, and cost of each platform.

INDIE is an LMS for entrepreneurs that makes it easy to create, manage, deliver and sell online courses. Featuring a beautiful and intuitive design, easy-to-use features, and attractive pricing, the learning platform is the perfect solution for people who want to market their knowledge and grow their online business.

Podia is a platform used to build websites, sell courses and digital products, and host communities.

User interface

INDIE has a modern, responsive design that looks great on any device. The platform has a clean and intuitive interface, including beautiful tile-based graphical dashboards for all types of users and an attractive course catalog that allows entrepreneurs to showcase their courses. INDIE users can fully customize their website with their own logo, color themes, terminology, visitor portal, and more. INDIE is available in more than 50 languages, including right-to-left languages.

Podia has a simple and straightforward interface. Creating a site is easy and it only takes a few minutes as long as you have the logos and the content prepared in advance. Course creators can customize many aspects of the platform including importing stock images and color schemes for different sections of the site. Just like when creating a course using INDIE, you don’t need any coding knowledge to do so.

Podia’s dashboard is more text-based and there are no graphical dashboards for instructors or learners. Even though everything is drag-and-drop, the dashboard features some information related to customers, subscribers, sales, and more in an overview section which is useful to have but it’s not as detailed as some users would expect.

Podia doesn’t provide an authoring tool and instructors cannot add content or embed different types of media as they would in INDIE. The lack of an authoring tool might be an inconvenience for most course creators who want to edit content outside of the learning platform. The process of uploading or embedding links from other sites (e.g. YouTube) also takes a lot of time and instructors have to get through multiple steps to get everything up and running. There is also no option to record video or audio directly from your browser.

Another important aspect is the lack of accessibility features, which are essential for engaging learners of all abilities and backgrounds. Podia currently has support for 12 languages.

Ease of use

INDIE is very intuitive and easy to use. In addition, it includes an online help center with how-to videos, getting started guides, and searchable content. INDIE has a rapid response support forum where staff members typically respond to questions within 15-30 minutes during business hours. INDIE also features a chatbot that provides answers and support on the spot.

Podia provides 24/7 customer support via email and live chat.

Features

INDIE provides the range of functionality you’d expect in a modern LMS for entrepreneurs, such as support for courses content authoring, integrated e-commerce functionality, graphical course catalog, beautiful module layouts, gamification, automation, drip content, a customizable selling site, support for affiliates, marketing tools, and more.

INDIE integrates with a wide variety of systems, including Google Drive, Calendars (iCal), PayPal, Stripe, Authorize.net, PayUbiz, Zapier, MailChimp, Panopto, and SMTP/POP3.

Podia offers limited functionality in terms of learning experience and time-saving features. A key difference is a lack of an automation feature that allows instructors to add rules for certain actions such as enrollments, inactivity, or course completion.

The platform’s gamification option features are limited, can only be embedded using external platforms, and cannot be customized by instructors. You cannot award points to learners or display results on leaderboards.

In terms of course marketing tools, instructors can add testimonials when building their site and even embedding pictures, but learners cannot rate or review courses, which is also a minus for learner engagement.
